Insoluble in water, chemicalbook can be melted in ammonia and strong alkali solution to form molybdate. It dissolves in strong acid and generates molybdenum dioxygen (moo22+) and molybdenum dioxygen (moo4+) complex cations, which can form soluble complexes with acid radicals. It is extremely weak in oxidation and can be reduced by hydrogen, carbon and aluminum at high temperature. Reaction with phosphoric acid can produce phosphomolybdic acid.
